The good times of the real estate market earlier this decade have been followed up by very bad times. You are going to face a lot of competition if you want to sell your home. The following tips can help and they won’t cost you a bundle.

Smoking is not only bad for your health, it can turn off potential home buyers. If you or someone living in your home smokes, you need to deal with it. Clean the walls, floors and remove butts outside. Also replace the air filter in the heater.

Dripping faucets in the middle of the night are a form of torture. They also turn off buyers. Check all your faucets. If they leak, replace the washers. If they are beaten up or don’t turn well, replace the entire faucet.

Baseboards are probably the last thing you think of when preparing to sell your home. This is a mistake. Sellers look at baseboards. If they are broken or dinged, replace them. If they are marked up or scratched, paint them.

Life is such that we ding things. If you have dings in your walls behind doors and such, repair them. It is best to hire a handyman to get the repairs done competently and particularly to get the paint to match.

It always amazes me when people spend big dollars on beautiful doors and windows, but then go cheap on screens. Screens are cheap and easy to replace. If yours are beaten up, bent, have holes or rusty, change them out.

The front door of your home is a focus point for buyers. A quality front door can make a good impression. The opposite can occur with a poor one. Guess which one you want to have? Do what is necessary to make it happen.

There is one repair you can make that costs practically nothing. Landscaping. Trim back the jungle. Do some weeding. Consider buying some new plants. If you have a dull area of the yard or home, spruce them up with landscaping.

Neither buyers nor sellers know much about roofs. Still, both know that broken shingles are bad news. If you have them, get the fixed. In fact, pay a roofer a small fee to have the entire roof inspected.

It is important to understand that there doom and gloom surrounding the current real estate market is a bit misleading. Yes, things are bad, but they are not at a complete stand still. With these tips, you can sell your home.
