If you like thought of having a grassy lawn in front of your dwelling to look at, to walk on once in a while, and for the whole neighborhood to admire, then you most likely realize that all lawns need one item – a lawn mower to keep all that grass looking tidy. But lawn mowers don’t come in only one basic size, design, or type. There are specific lawn mowers for the different types of grass-trimming needs a lawn owner will experience.

You can buy lawn mowers called rotary mowers, which rely on a circulating blade to snip and hack at the tall grass; the blade is covered by a protective cover. Alternatively, you can buy reel mowers, which have spinning blades that will flash above a fixed blade as they do the cutting. You can select these two styles of mowers as either gas-powered models or manual, human-powered models.

The rotary lawn mowers use the protective cover to prevent the grass from shooting out at you as the circulating blade does its work. It also prevents the circulating blade itself from suddenly flying out at you should it come away from its mooring sometime during the mowing job. That is why the protective housing is often manufactured of hefty metal, with a painted finish to prevent rusting.

The reel mowers (which are manual and not automated) allow you to enjoy the physical advantages of exercise. This type of lawn mower is well-suited for yards that contain around 100 square meters and are made of soft-bladed grass. As long as you did not put the Saint Augustine or Bermuda types of grass in your yard, this lawn mower will work well.

The power lawn mowers also come as either rotary or reel mowers. The rotary type is more affordable priced than the reel type, and is also simple to run and easier to sharpen. The reel mowers are great for effortlessly shortening your grass to golf green level, and they leave behind a neat look to the grass once you are done.

If you aren’t bothered by the smoke, the odor, and the racket, a gasoline-fueled lawn mower could be what you are searching for. But for the individuals who do mind the noise, odor, and smoke, the electricity-powered lawn mower option is a superior pick. Electric-powered mowers can be either the corded or the cordless type. The corded lawn mower will have a cord measuring about 100 feetlong, which will connect to a power outlet. But if you’re one of the people who dreads driving over the cord itself and cutting it with the lawn mower blades, or if you just find electric cords a hassle, then you will prefer a cordless electric lawn mower. It has its own power supply. You only need to charge it once a day for around 4 to 6 hours at a time.

A human-powered or push mower will be appropriate for running on sloping, hilly yards. For ease of use, get the front-propelled type of lawn mowers. If your yard is really big, then you might find that you require a tractor-type of lawn mower. This is the type you can actually drive like a vehicle as you trim the grass in the yard.

Have you seen those small, circular disk that shoot across someone’s yard, gently humming and leaving grass clippings in its wake. Did you think you were dreaming? You are not; welcome to the twenty-first century and the advent of the robotic lawn mower.

A robotic lawn mower is self-propelled, battery powered mower that can be programmed to cut your grass all on its own. Set its parameters and the time that you would like the lawn to be cut and that is it! Several models can run up to an hour on their high-powered batteries and when they are done, they will return to their docking station to begin charging for its next session.

A robotic lawn mower can be programmed to mow in several ways. It can begin on the perimeter and work its way to the interior; it can begin in a spot in the center and work its way outward; or it can move in a crisscross pattern, creating that ever-so-nice fairway pattern that we are all so fond of. Your own golf course, you say? You bet.

A robotic lawn mower has several advantages over its noisy, manual, gas-powered cousins. The first: you do not have to do anything but watch the amazing technology as it winds its way through the yard. Other, more mundane, advantages are that robotic lawn mowers are quieter, they do not use expensive and smelly gas or oil, and they do not pollute the environment (including your yard).

What about those flowers bordering the walk or the maple tree in the middle of the yard? Do not worry. Robotic mowers are equipped with sensors that can detect an object in its path. The flowers, the trees, and even your pets are safe from the wrath of the modern robotic lawn mower. They can operate on just about any slope and most are fully guarded from the elements. So, if a shower breaks out on your mower, it will live to fight those dandelions another day.

If you are in the market for a new riding lawn mower, there are several factors to consider. Your mower should suit its job; it should be the right height, weight, width, etc. Consider, for example, the deck. For most jobs in the typical suburban yard a deck 30-40 inches should be sufficient. If you have a large expanse of yard with few obstacles, you may want to consider a deck that is slightly larger.

Another factor to consider when buying a new riding lawn mower is the motor. If you intend on cutting high grass or broom sage, you may want to opt for a higher horsepower model. If you do not need much power, you should go with the standard. The position of the motor in the riding mower is also important. If the motor is in front, typically, it will give you more power. If the motor is in the back, you will have better visibility.

Riding lawn mowers also come with different speed controls. Some mowers come with a clutch, a clutch brake combination, a standard gearshift, or an automatic transmission. Prices will vary depending on the make and model, but expect to pay a little more for the automatic riding lawn mowers.

You should also consider adding a few options to your new riding lawn mower. Some mowers can be equipped with automatic mulchers, which chew up the grass clipping and deposit them in a storage bag, which you can later dispose of or broadcast back into your yard, returning important nutrients to your lawn. A warranty may also prove to be a good idea, especially if you are buying an off-brand riding lawn mower. Compare the warranty to others on similar models to make sure you are not getting the run-around.

During the mowing season, most of us pour some gas in our mower, turn the key, and hope the blades spin just as they did last year. What happens when they don’t? Well, you could take it to a lawn mower repair center, but why not try to repair the lawn mower yourself?

There are several things to consider when repairing your lawn mower, depending on the problem you are having. First, if your mower fails to start you should immediately check to see if there is gasoline in the tank. Repeatedly, some people will dismantle an entire engine before they come to the realization that there is no gas in the tank, ripping out spark plugs and blowing out the carburetor. In addition, if you are using your lawn mower for the first time in a season you may want to replace that old gas with fresh gas.

Another staple of lawn mower repair involves cleaning the spark plugs. Remove the plugs from their sockets and use a wire brush to clean between the contacts. Often corrosion will occur here, robbing the engine of the necessary spark required to ignite the gasoline. The abrasion will remove any corrosion.

Another simple lawn mower repair technique is the replacing of the oil and air filters. By replacing the oil filter, debris is removed from the inside of the lawn mower engine, allowing for smoother operation. It is also a good idea to change the oil every season. The air filter, on the other hand, allows the lawn mower to “breathe” better and creates a better air to fuel mixture for the engine to burn.

One of the most neglected aspects of lawn mower repair is the tendency for people to avoid sharpening the blades on a mower. We all know that with age and wear a blade will become dull, though it is not that difficult a problem. To repair the blades, you should file the edge of the blades, moving with the grain. This will reveal new metal and create a sharper edge for easier cutting.

Are you tired of putting along on that worn-out riding mower, clipping grass at a snail’s pace? It may be time to check out one of the fastest growing sports in recent years: mower racing. Some modifications make it possible to attain speeds of over sixty miles per hour on a mower. But it is advised that if you take it to that level, you should move your mower off of your green grass and to the local dirt track or drag strip, where lawn mower racing is becoming a popular and structured sport.

For example, there is even a national organization for lawn mower racing with over seven hundred members, known as the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association. They sponsor different kinds of races, from expert to amateur races, which are open to anyone who owns a lawn mower. However, unless you are an Olympic sprinter, you had better leave that push mower at home. These guys are serious.

Lawn mower racing apparently has its roots in a British pub called the Cricker’s Arms. In 1973 a group of buzzed chaps, sipping pints and bemoaning the financial costs of motor sports, realized that nearly all of them owned a mower and could use them to race; it had a motor, four wheels, and a steering wheel, they reasoned-the only necessary elements for racing. Thus, the British Lawn Mower Racing Association was born, and along with it, lawn mower racing as a whole.

If you are interested in mower racing there are some things you may want to do. For example, the rules of racing are different depending on where you are competing. Be sure to check with your local chapter for what is allowed and what is not. Go to a meeting and talk to those who are already involved; most racers are very welcoming and will do whatever they can to recruit new members, almost to the point of working on your mower for you!

Snapper Lawn Mowers offers a legendary name in the lawn mower industry. For decades, Snapper Lawn Mowers has been one of the top selling, reliable manufacturers of quality residential and commercial lawn mowers.

In its residential line, Snapper offers a variety of models. Their walk-behind mowers are simple to use and are a popular choice for those who have only a small amount of grass to cut. Though they are small and light, they pack a punch. Another type of lawn mower Snapper offers is the rear engine rider. Snapper actually invented this type of lawn mower. They were the first to put it on the market, so it is not difficult to understand why it is the number one rear engine lawn mower in America.

Snapper also offers its legendary line of zero-turn mowers. The high-end model, the 450Z, offers twin level controls for comfort, fan-cooled dual pumps and wheel motors, 11-inch front caster wheels with 20-inch rear wheels, and two seven-gallon fuel tanks, for a total of 14 gallons. You can ride this baby all day. Snapper’s residential mowers offer incredible maneuverability, speed, and dexterity, at an affordable price.

Snapper’s commercial lawn mowers are also generally recognized to be some of the best in the industry. They offer some interesting and unique design features. For example, most commercial Snapper lawn mowers utilize field serviceable spindles, which allow one to rebuild the spindle with common tools while it is still attached to the deck. Snapper also offers a dual hydrostatic system on their commercial mowers. This system provides fluid maneuverability for even large machines. Snapper also uses heavy, seven-gauge steel, in its welded frames. These provide tremendous strength and support.

One of the most impressive of the commercial Snapper lawn mowers is the Pro Express Walk-Behind. This model features either a 13 or 15 horsepower motor, a 5-speed transmission, electric clutch blade engagement, and up to a 48 inch cutting deck. This lawn mower will make light work of any rough terrain.

If you live in major metropolitan area and have a smaller, level yard, it may behoove you to consider the many benefits of a mower with a lawn mower battery over the traditional gasoline lawn mower.

For example, most of them are much lighter than gas powered models. This is because the materials from which they are made do not have to be as sturdy as that of their bigger cousins. Most battery powered lawn mowers are constructed of a plastic composite material that does provide great strength for its weight. With the reduction in weight comes another advantage: easy maneuverability. With a lawn mower battery you are more likely to avoid running over that rose bush you worked so hard planting last spring.

The noise reduction is also greatly appreciated. A mower with a lawn mower battery runs much quieter than those loud gas mowers. Also, unlike those first-generation electric lawn mowers, with a battery mower there is no need to lug around a one-hundred-foot extension cord. You are free to roam about your yard with grace and ease.

Most battery powered lawn mowers use a 24 volt battery, which provides plenty of power and ample time (usually about an hour and a half) to cut your grass. And with that powerful battery in your lawn mower comes another advantage: no smelly, high priced gas or oil is needed.

Some battery powered lawn mowers even come with built in mulching capabilities. Instead of bagging up those grass clippings, why not get one of these mowers, which mulches the clippings and returns them to your yard where the nutrients can be reused, giving you a better, greener yard with each cut? Though these mowers are full of benefits, there is one expense to consider when buying a battery powered lawn mower. Eventually the battery will lose some of its recharging capabilities and will have to be replaced, which may prove to be expensive.

One of the easiest and simplest methods for cutting your grass is not the noisy and cumbersome riding mower, but the self-propelled walk behind mower. Usually, self-propelled lawn mowers require the operator to squeeze a lever, which activates the drive system. As a safety precaution, when the operator lets go of the lever, the mower stops. This prevents the mower from escaping the control of the user and doing damage to persons or property.

In the more expensive self-propelled lawn mowers, only the blade stops spinning, not the motor. This is nice if do not want the mower to turn off, but would like to skip a patch of grass or transport the mower over gravel or other debris.

Several factors you should consider when purchasing a new self-propelled lawn mower have to do with the area you are planning to mow. If your yard has quite a slope to it, or if it undulates more than most, you may want to invest in a mower with large rear wheels, which allow for easier movement over rough terrain. If you plan to change speeds, you will want to purchase a mower with a transmission. This would be appropriate for a yard with different types of terrain, like a few hills and a large, open expanse of land. Another factor to consider is the engine. If you get a self-propelled lawn mower with an engine that is too small for your purposes, it may quickly bog down under strenuous conditions, like that fist long cut of the spring or a steep incline.

Self-propelled lawn mowers are available with a variety of features. You can get the mulching bags in the rear or to the side. Placing the bag on the side often allows for greater visibility, but the rear mounted placement offers greater maneuverability. You should also check on the height adjustments. Some mowers require the use of four separate levers, while some do it all with just one.

Zoom! A small, circular disk shoots across your yard, gently humming and leaving grass clippings in its wake. Are you dreaming? You surely are not; welcome to the twenty-first century and the advent of the automatic lawn mower.

An automatic lawn mower is self-propelled, battery powered mower that can be programmed to cut your grass all by itself. Set its parameters and the time that you would like the lawn to be cut and that is it! Several models can run up to an hour on their high-powered batteries and when they are done, they will return to their docking station to begin charging for its next session.

An automatic lawn mower can be programmed to mow in several ways. It can begin on the perimeter and work its way to the interior; it can begin in a spot in the center and work its way outward; or it can move in a crisscross pattern, creating that ever-so-nice fairway pattern that we are all so fond of.

An automatic mower has several advantages over its noisy, manual, gas-powered cousins. The first being you don’t have to do anything but watch the amazing technology as it winds its way through the yard. Other, more mundane, advantages are that automatic lawn mowers are quieter, they don’t use expensive and smelly gas or oil, and they do not pollute the environment.

But what about those flowers bordering the walk or the maple tree in the middle of the yard? Don’t worry. Automatic mowers are equipped with sensors that can detect when an object is in its path. The flowers, the trees, and even Fluffy are safe from the wrath of the modern automatic lawn mower. They can operate on just about any slope and most are fully guarded from the elements. So if a shower breaks out on your mower, it will live to fight the lawn another day.
