Making a homes yard a focal point for both the day and at night can take some planning and a yard can look wonderful in the light but looses its appeal once the sun has set. Many homeowners are looking at landscaping ideas and discovering that landscape lighting is a way to make their yard the envy of the neighborhood.

A yard with a well lit yard is one that attracts attention and it doesn’t take very many lights to make a yard a really stand out. A few lights that are placed in specific points around the yard can not only illuminate the house, but also special features in the yard. At night plants and trees can take on shapes that make them special and a landscape spot light is one way to create that look.

Path lighting is another way to bring the eyes up a path and right to a homes front door. This type of visual is a welcoming sign to visitors and can bring out the best features of a home as well as a yard. A landscape spotlight can also be used in conjunction with path lighting to create a warm feeling for guests.

Using A Landscape Spot Light To Make An Impact

A landscape spot light can be placed at an angle that will enhance the shadows that are cast by a tree or even water feature in the yard. These shadows can really bring attention to a yard as well as making the specified feature attractive. By placing a landscape spot light at the base of a tree and just focusing the light on that area, the tree can take on a new shape and helps to make that much desired impact.

By placing lights that aren’t as bright around other features in the yard, the yard itself can take on different depths and perceptions due to the light variations. These can create dancing shadows through out the yard and make the entire yard unique and attractive.

Solar lights are good for a lower level of light that may be needed in the yard. These energy saving lights store up solar power during the day and automatically come on once it is dusk. These are low maintenance lights that don’t take a lot of time to install as they are independent of a power source. These types of lights can be used through out the yard and are a great way to enhance those corners of a lot to brighten them up.

For a more powerful landscape spot light, the traditional style light is needed. These will use not only a power source but also light bulbs so they involve a little more up keep. The cables need to be buried and a shallow ditch can be dug to put the cables in. They will need to be hooked up to a transformer and then an outside power outlet.

Both types of lighting takes some planning to get the best design lay out but most homeowners can do this on their own with minimal instruction, landscape companies will also offer this service if a homeowner would like to go that route.

When designing a landscape it takes time and effort to project the perfect environment that is trying to be created. No matter if the yard is big or small; the impact of the landscape design can truly make a home have that curbside appeal that is desired.

By using landscape lighting, homeowners can turn their beautiful daytime landscape into a glowing show piece at night. The right type of landscape lighting can bring out areas of the yard at night that might otherwise be overlooked.

A landscape spotlight is a great way of making a focal point in the yard with a simple light. This light can be placed to focus the eye on a specific feature in the yard such as a tree or rocks and bring out the contours and design of that feature.

Another important feature of landscape lighting is making the yard safe for everyone and a landscape path light is the way to create that safety.

How To Incorporate A Landscape Path Light

A landscape path light is an easy way to accent a homes pathways and sidewalks with lighting. Not only will this keep visitors on the right path, it is a great way to make every guest feel invited into the home.

A landscape path light can either be a solar type light or a traditional powered light. A solar powered light usually gives off a softer light but can be very easy to install. The landscape path light that is solar powered is often designed in many different ways to fit any yards décor. They can come in lantern style that has a stem to plant into the ground and then hang the solar powered landscape path light to it or there are types that are placed directly into the ground and rise just a few inches above the ground.

There are also lights that can be directly attached to steps that are also solar powered. These can be convenient as they turn on when the sun sets and illuminate all night. These simply lights are flat and will not be tripped on by guests.

The traditional style landscape path light will need to be connected to a transformer that is part of a system of power for the lights. These will be directly connected to an outside outlet and a system can be set up of both spotlights and other lights to cover the entire yard. These are connected by cables and the cables need to be buried to keep from being a danger in the yard.

A combination of solar and traditional lights is often a good approach for many yards, and these lights will help make your yard the one that makes a statement in the neighborhood.

Most people, when planning their yards landscaping just focus on how the yard looks during the day, but some homeowners realize the benefits of making their yard a showpiece in the day as well as at night.

Landscape accent lighting can help make any yard make a statement at night, when most of the yards are a blank canvass; a yard with landscape accent lighting can become an oasis.

By installing lights to bring out the beauty of the yard, a homeowner can create a vision for everyone to enjoy.

How To Plan For Landscape Accent Lighting

When beginning a plan to install landscape accent lighting, the homeowner needs to take a look at their current landscape and determine which features to accent. There are some common ideas that work in every yard including using a landscape path light to brighten sidewalks.

This type of lighting will be placed next to sidewalks and pathways in order to not only accent them, but these lights can be considered a safety feature as they highlight where a path is. This lighting is a great way to make the front of a home a bright and cheerful sight for guests as they walk up to the front door.

Landscape accent lighting can also involve using a spotlight light to bring focus to a feature in the yard. These lights are bright and need to be placed in areas that won’t shine into neighbor’s windows. A spotlight is a great way to bring the eye to a particular spot in the yard and can also be used to create shadows within the yard.

Landscape accent lighting can also be placed in the dark corners of a yard to help brighten up those areas and discourage any unwanted guests from the yard. This is thought to keep potential home invasions from occurring within the home as a well lit yard can keep crime at bay.

Spotlights and other more powerful lights need to be connected to a power source and will involve the use of cables throughout the yard. Keep that in mind when planning the landscape accent lighting for your yard. There are also solar powered lights that use solar energy and come on once it gets dark. These lights are often softer looking but can really enhance a yards natural beauty.

Using landscape accent lighting is a great way to make a house stand out and show all of its potential in the daylight and at night.

There are a variety of instances where outdoor projects will pop up that need to be completed quickly, especially when they involve an integral aspect of the house such as roofing. Depending on the time of the year and your work schedule or other duties, it may be very difficult to find the time to fit these projects in during daylight hours.

This will necessitate undertaking these projects at night, which will all but require you to find a good source of outdoor lighting suitable for the task. Thankfully there are a variety of outdoor lighting choices suitable for personal and industrial use. These light sources can keep the work running smoothly and on schedule, and most importantly, being performed safely.

Spotlights are a good choice of lighting for both personal and business uses. These lights can provide a large swath of light over an area, making it easy to perform even delicate work. They can also be shifted in their position to shine their light over a different area, should the work move to a different location.

For work that requires constant movement between multiple locations a more portable lighting source would probably be better. For work in a backyard area a floodlight that covers much of the backyard should be able to handle any work that needs to be done.

You may also consider having permanent light poles installed around the front of your house, along the street sidewalk, the walkway up to your front door and in the area around your garage or parking lot. These can help with any evening work that ever needs to be done in those areas, and also makes your home safer and more inviting at night.

Even when not doing work it’s important to have a well lit home at night. When you have children in your home especially, you’re bound to have all manner of toys and gadgets strewn about the lawn, walkways and driveways that may be tripped over if you’re not careful and don’t have adequate night-time lighting.

If you don’t want lighting of this nature on throughout the entire evening, you can go with motion sensitive lights or outdoor solar lights, which will safely show you the way around when you’re in the area and shut off once you’re gone. This can save you a good deal of money on your electric bills. These lights are also good for alerting your presence to someone else around your property if you can see them turn on from inside the house.

Outdoor landscape lighting is a great way to bring attention to a yard during the night. Not only does this type of lighting bring out features in a yard, it can also be used for safety and security reasons in a yard.

Many homeowners recognize the importance of keeping their yard lit in order to prevent accidents from occurring on pathways and to keep possible intruders from coming into their yards. A well lit yard can be a deterrent to a possible burglary and a safety precaution for the homeowner.

There are many choices in outdoor landscape lighting and a homeowner can either design it themselves or hire a professional to create the space for them.

Things To Consider When Looking At Outdoor Landscape Lighting

When considering outdoor landscape lighting, homeowners need to evaluate their space and needs in the area. For some homeowners they will need a comprehensive plan in order to set up lighting. Lights need to be powered and hooked up to an electrical system and depending on how many lights this may involve; a professional may be needed to put the system into place.

For other homeowners, an outdoor landscape lighting design will involve the strategic placements of lights around their yard and pathways up to their front door. By placing lights surrounding pathways and sidewalks, a homeowner can bring attention the appeal of their front door and offer a welcoming display.

Landscape accent lighting can be used to focus attention on details within a yard such as flowers, waterfalls or ponds. These types of lights can be solar powered units that don’t need to be connected to a power source. The solar power lights come on at dusk and are powered throughout the night using solar energy and are a cost effective way to light up a space.

Some homeowners however need more light in an area than many solar powered lights have and the traditional form of lighting needs to be used. This can be accomplished by using a single spotlight that has had its cable buried so no one will trip over it. This type of lighting throughout the yard is a great way to bring attention to a yard and brighten up dark spots in the yard.

Outdoor landscape lighting is not only a practical solution when it comes to keeping a yard safe, it is also a great way to pull the eye to a yard and make the space both attractive in the day as well as the night.

Outdoor landscape lighting is a way that homeowners can bring attention to an area of their yard during the evening. Landscape lighting design is often a way to combine both the ability to showcase features in a yard as well as keep pathways lit for safety reasons. Being able to use a landscape lighting design to both keep a yard area safe as well as beautiful is the goal of lighting.

For homeowners, the beginning steps in deciding which areas to light up involves being both practical and looking at the features of their yard that can be enhanced with lighting. Often these areas are obvious, but sometimes a homeowner can be surprised by just what a good landscape lighting design can bring out in their yard.

Looking At Landscape Lighting Design

When choosing a landscape lighting design, keep in mind that there are several options in lighting available. Solar lighting is a great way to showcase a particular area of a yard and doesn’t have to be connected to an outlet in order to work; on the other hand, the light is often not as strong as a traditional light.

The traditional type of lighting will need to be connected to a power source so cables or extension cords will be needed to power these types of lights. This can be easily accomplished by digging small shallow trenches in order to bury the lines. Depending on a yards layout, this may not work for all areas of the yard, so the independent solar lights may be better solutions for pockets in the yard.

Determining which areas will be part of a landscape lighting design needs to be done before deciding what types of lights will work. Check out your yard front and back and make a choice on which features you would like to display. Is there a tree or bush that would give off good shadows if lit up? What about natural rock formations in the yard, could a light enhance their appeal? Take some time to determine which areas of the yard would be enhanced with lighting.

Often, sidewalks or pathways are lit up for safety reasons at night. These lights can be attractive during the day too, as there are many choices for consumers when it comes to lighting.

By using a landscape lighting design a homeowner can focus attention on their home at night as well as having decorative lights in the yard during the day.

Today there are numerous different styles of decorative solar lighting one can choose from to help enhance the look of your garden. Even if you do not have a garden just a terrace or a balcony this form of outside solar lighting can help to bring it to life for you.

In this article we are going to be taking a look at some of the different kinds of outside solar lighting one can now use to decorate and enhance your garden.

1. Terracotta Solar Sphere Light – This is the ideal light to add ambience to any outdoor entertaining space in your garden. The spheres can be placed either around the edges of your patio or decking or on tables. They all have holes cut into the sides in a variety of different shapes which gives a silhouetted effect that further adds to the effect you wish to try and create.

2. Firefly Solar Light – These come with a stainless steel stake which allows you to place them anywhere you want in your garden. On top of the stake is a very beautiful hand blown cracked glass globe which at night emits a very pale glow in the garden. Although mainly used as a decorative form of lighting can also be used as accent lighting to show up dark obstacles or to help light the route of a pathway.

These types of decorative solar lighting can provide a warm subtle kind of lighting to a garden to bring out other features within it. Ideally this type of lighting should be used where it is able to bring color and life back into what you may feel is a very drab area of your garden.

3. A Floating Solar Light – This form of decorative solar lighting comes in a number of different colors and it is this which will be the color you see reflected on the water. The gently float on the water and during the day the solar panel collects energy from the sun which it then converts to power to run the light within. These are not only very easy to install and get set up but cost you nothing to run once they are.

4. Solar Rock Lights – These can be placed in locations around the garden giving a romantic soft glow to certain plants that you would like people to see. The other way in which these can be used is to light the way along a path in your garden or to guide people up the steps to your decking.

5. Solar Powered Stepping Stone Light – This is not only a great looking form of decorative solar lighting but can be used as a safety feature in the garden as well. Use these lights for being able to show people the pathways in your garden at the rear and which are away from the lights of your house. Around each of the lights there is a solar panel that collects energy from the sun in the daytime and then releases the energy to power the light contained with once night has come.

These lights and all the outside decorative solar lighting we have mentioned in this article is very easy to install and use. Plus the cost of actually running them once they are installed is nothing. Most of the solar lights available today especially those we have mentioned here will automatically turn themselves on and off. On average these types of lights as long as they have collected enough energy from the sun will last for around 8 to 10 hours without the need for any external power source.

A home landscape is the best way to showcase the outside of a home and enhance the overall appearance of the entire home. Landscape lighting is a way to focus features of a yard at night and once again show off a homes best assets.

Looking Into Landscape Lighting

When initially landscaping a yard, many don’t set out to plan an area that will use landscape lighting. Usually, pathways and sidewalks are set off by landscape lighting for both practical purposes as well as highlighting the area.

When looking at an area to use landscape lighting in, consider your home from the street, is there a particularly feature that would look good at night? Often trees or shrubbery can be focal points for landscape lighting and are simple to highlight. Areas of natural stone or even lights that shine onto the home itself can also be an attractive way to bring attention to a yard and home.

Once a home owner has determined which areas they would like to feature with landscape lighting, they then must discover how to go about installing landscape lighting. One type of landscape lighting that can be used is a solar landscape light. This type of light uses the power of the sun to run it at night and can be an energy saver for homeowners. These lights will automatically come on once the sun has set and as long as they are charged will light up all night.

Other types of landscape lighting include lights that are turned on by a switch. These types of lights are easy to install, but must be connected to an outlet in order to operate. Many homes that have a vast area to light up at night use both solar powered lights as well as the traditional landscape lighting. Home owners will often use the combination of lighting options in order to feature different areas of their yard.

Traditional lighting will need to be installed by using cables to connect the lights to each other and to a power source. By digging a small shallow ditch to place the cable in, a homeowner can be assured that no one will trip over any exposed cables.

Home improvement stores carry a large variety of different types of outdoor lighting choices and can be a good source of information on which types will work best in your area. There are many different decorative models that can enhance and match the landscaping in a yard, helping to create a yard that is both attractive during the day as well as at night.
