Enjoy Your Backyard

If you have ever lived in an apartment or an inner city than you know how great it is to have even a little bit of property to call your own. You know how fun it can be to have space to play or relax or garden. You know that a backyard can be one of the greatest places on earth.

I have grown to love my backyard so much because it holds so much potential for me and my family. It is a small plot of the earth just to be used by me and the ones I love. Because I know that not many people in the world have a space to call their own, I have really learned to make the most of the backyard I have.

For the first few years our family had a backyard we did little with it other than mow the grass. That all changed, however, after a family meeting we held one Saturday afternoon. I guess it was my husband's idea, I cannot really remember, but I just know that we decided as a family to put our backyard into good use. We brainstormed ideas about the different ways that we could transform our backyard into a place that we all enjoyed spending time in.

Our brainstorming session led to many changes in our backyard. My husband and I had always wanted to garden, so we set aside part of the backyard and began making preparations for having a vegetable garden. It was a thrill for us to actually see one of dreams come true right on our own property. We read up on gardening and asked for tips from our gardening friends. Within two seasons we had a small but successful vegetable garden that was one of the proudest spots in our backyard.

Our children requested a fire pit so that we could enjoy bonfires and making smores on cool summer nights. We did a little research and installed a great fire pit on one side of our backyard. It became a gathering place for many of our friends and family members throughout the spring, summer and even fall months. Many special conversations were had around that fire pit and it too became one of the best parts of our backyard.

The Mechanics Of Landscape Design

Puting a pencil to your own landscaping plans, you’ll start to notice some beautifully fascinating landscape designs, plans, and ideas. You almost can’t help but wonder how some landscape designers come up with this stuff. Researching for the right plants, creating design shapes, choosing materials, and countless other details are usually too much for the first time do it yourselfer.

More experienced designers may rely on their years of repetition and experience. For many, it’s simply a matter of vision. And other times the planner may have to go through several ideas until they find some that work. Most home owners are part of this last group. Without a clue about landscaping, most folks search through books of pictures of landscaping and yards searching for different ideas and plans that might work well in their own yards.

With as many books and online landscaping pictures to look at, it should be easy to find a design that could at least be copied. It probably would be If every yard was the same shape.  However, the fact is that most yards aren’t the same size or shape. Regardless of all the landscape and garden designs, you still probably won’t find a design that will fit perfectly into your own yard or property.

Being the case for most folks, a different approach to designing a landscape is needed. Don’t try to find a perfect design plan that will magically fit into your yard. When looking through different landscaping photos and ideas, try to identify the things that are alike in most or all of the landscaping ideas. Try to identify what the methods and ideas are that are used over and over by different architects, landscapers, and designers. Since they are almost always simple principles of landscape design and art, these are the design elements that are generally appealing. These are the things that will probably incorporate well into your own design project regardless of shape.

Take a look at the different forms and shapes and how they’re repeated throughout the landscaping. And also pay attention to how plants are placed and how their colors are being used in different gardens. Pay attention to the small details like elements or plants being grouped together in odd numbers. Pay attention to the details of landscaping and not just the shape. Your own ideas will come together as you dig into the mechanics of landscaping and landscape design.

If even your only resource, there’s nothing wrong with using ideas from other designs, books, or even landscaping pictures. You’ll have better luck piecing different ideas from different plans together instead of trying to find the exact perfect design shape for your landscape. Besides saving yourself a lot of frustration, you’re more likely to come up with a design that is creative and unique to your own yard.

Making Sure Grass Seed Grows Successfully

With the right information and advice you can have a lawan growing outside your home with little effort. There is really more to growing a lawn than just planting grass seeds.

The various kinds of grass that are there do not all grow well in the same environment. So you have to think about the amount of rain that you receive; access to the sun and the amount of shade that you can provide or that is needed. To avoid all the hassles of maintaining the grass and trying to get it grow, just simply go for the one that is suited for the type of area that you live in. For those in wet and cool climates they will find that Centipede, Bermuda or Buffalo grass does very well.

Some other great planting ideas can be found under any of the following: compare grass seeds front lawn grass seeds fast germinating grass seed

When it comes to planting it will also depend on whether you are planting a new lawn totally or on ground that has an existing lawn and you just want to replenish it. If its virgin ground then you will have to make sure that is cleared of all weeds, other grass and anything else that might be growing there. Try and remove even the roots if possible. Leaving bits of root usually means these things will grow at a later stage and your lawn won’t develop properly

The seeds need to be spread evenly so that there are no patches when the lawn does grow. The soil should be loose and the seeds be covered by another layer of this soil.

It is only while it is still growing that you need to pay attention to a lawn after that its just the occasional trimming and cutting. A lawn should have enough water but it should never become water clogged. You can use fertilizer but weed killer only after you are sure that it is now strong.
